The primary function of sleeping is to restore and rest the body. When there are interruptions in the sleep by abnormalties in breathing we have disrupted this process. Some of these disorders include:

There are 4 kinds of studies done to determine the disorder diagnosis:
Diagnostic Overnight PSG Diagnostic daytime multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) Split-night PSG with CPAP titration Two-night evaluation PSG and CPAP titration
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) affects up to 10% of the adult population. An estimated 20 million in the U.S. alone have OSA and many of them are unaware of their condition.
Some Sleep Tips Try to maintain a regular bedtime routine, i.e. reading a book or listening to music. A regular bedtime is necessary as well as a wake time schedule all days of the week. A dark, quiet and cool environment is necessary to maintain a sleep-condusive environment. No alcohol close to bedtime is important. Avoiding caffeine close to bedtime. This disrupts sleep by keeping you awake. Avoid cigarette and tobacco products for a few hours before bedtime. Eating should be done about 2-3 hours before bedtime. Sleeping on a comfortable mattress and pillow is key to a good nights rest. The bedroom should be allocated to sex and sleep only. Any outside activities should be taken out of the sleeping environment.
